Hello.I have just purchased a neglected scrambler 6x6.The motor clutch is fine but the driven pulley or clutch on the shaft with the brake discs is completly rotted away. Can someone point me in the correct direction on what to purchase?I plan on putting a 12 hp briggs in to replace the missing engine. Thanks in advance.Alex

The driven clutches had a few different styles and diameters. I would measure the overall diameter, belt width and shaft size and go hunting on ebay for them. Search for salsbury or comet. I believe jerseybigfoot used a polaris setup on one too.

Well I bought it with no engine and it sat in the woods for 30 years.I have removed the clutch driven shaft assembly and the brakes rotors.Everything needs total rebuilding.I did get a spare attex with the baker hill trans .This attex has also sat neglected for 30 years.Seems like the comet 40 series is the way I have to go.If I swap the baker hill trans and drive setup then i will have to figure out what drive clutch to use.The belt on the attex is much wider than the one on the scrambler.Either way i sure have my work cut out for me.Pics will come soon. Thanks

Swapping in the baker hill directly will gear it like a tractor. Not really a bad thing but it is if you want to go faster then like 8mph or something. Probably have all sorts of stump pulling power though! Your may need a heavy duty hitch fasted really good rear axle bearing plate or something! lol

Looks like i am not going to swap the baker hill trans in then.Plan is to purchase a harbor freight 11 or 13 hp greyhound engine.I dont seem to have any luck with snowmobile engines. The local snowmobile parts dealer informed me that sled engines are not made for summer use. They are used in some land races for short distances but its extremely hard on the engine. The internet seems to keep me confused on the subject.I sure would like to know what polaris setup jerseybigfoot used.

You will need to measure the shaft diameter for the clutch. Scramblers had 3/4" 7/8" and 1" shafts. The later scramblers had larger converters and the left side hydraulic clutch actuator was offset and connected with a threaded extension. You can see the jam nut on the left side (when in the machine) and a a threaded coupling would move the Hydraulic cylinder to the right side for the larger converter.
Most of the original 7-8 hp Scramblers were speed sensitive converters, The torque sensitive units would work as well. Your biggest problem is finding the right size belt. The best thing is to locate a belt before you fix the engine location. Smaller belts are available from Golf Cart parts distributors on the WWW.
I"ll check my parts stock I may have a NOS clutch. PM me.Acta non verba

Seems like now I need to figure which comet clutch series to order. If I only need to run a 7hp briggs it seems like I can get away with using a comet 20 series with a 1" bore for the driven and 3/4" for the driver.I hope this will be strong enough.Any input on this is also appreciated. Thanks Again.

I just thought I would let everyone know that I put a salsbury 858 driven clutch on.It was all I could locate on ebay.It was a tight fit and I had to grind some of the aluminum off of one of the steering cylinders and I used an attex belt and everything works fine!
