  • T20 Rebuild progress

OK I just finished tearing down my T20. Not to bad that is until I came to the part of removing the C-clips on the out put shafts you the one way down in the freaking hole. Noe since I didn't have one of those conveniently long snap ring pliers they show in the how to guide it took a little imagination and a lot of cursing before i finally was able to get them out "holy crap" what a pain in the arss. I bet i will just as much fun putting them back in I'm so looking forward to that. Everything looked good the bands had no lining left at all. on drum is scared up pretty good. But I might have a some what cheap fix for that. I will let you guys know later if it works and if it does that means no more throwing away scared up drums.

Here is a pic of a t-20.....Dyno_D_Green Monster - Amphibious ATV Pictures And the link to the rebuild article
How to rebuild your Borg Warner Skid Steer T20 transmission from start to finish. This article has over 100 pictures and detailed instructions for rebuilding the tranny in your 6x6 amphibious atv

It would take some custom fabricating to put one in a TT but I bet it would be worth it.

The T20 is fully disassembled right now. But i will get pics posted as soon as it is rebuilt. I found out today that i can get my drum repaired for $125. I will post some pics of the repair as soon as i get it back sometime tomorrow. If it works i will post the contact info of the guy who did the repair for me if any is interested in going this rout.

the T-20 will NOT be a direct replacement in a Terra Tiger. It will require a lot of custom fabrication, but I think it would be a very worthwile endavor. The TT's seem to be really tough for a machine with no actual "frame" and the T-20 is as tough as nails as long as the person driving it is smarter than the transmission it's self... Why not marry the two together?? Next time a Terra Tiger shows up at my place, I plan on doing just that.

It's all on you Jim I was more referring to the people who shift the trans while pushing the sticks forward hard with the engine at 2500 RPM, or never pick up a wrench and check the mounting bolts, or force it into gear when it doesn't want to go or............
not a clue on your broken input shaft, I guess sometimes parts just fail... then again, who knows what someone did to that trans before you got it.

Hey, I broke an output spool at a ride with the WNY hoodlums last year. I wasn't horsing anything, just riding through the woods. Stuff just "breaks" sometimes. But man, I sure never did break a mainshaft, though.

That must be a pretty smart transmission you've got there, Buggyman!

No, you were right Brian......I was being an idiot.......I was trying to move something way too big by banging both sticks forward while at 2500 rpm....or more.
Using the winch worked much better! Patience is not one of my strong points.

Well just finished rebuilding my T20. assembly went together pretty smoothly with one exception. The assembly instructions left out the part were you install the inner C-clip on the input shaft. Luckily I noticed it before i had the to half's together and wasn't to much to take the drums out and install the C-clip. I will install it tomorrow and see how it works. Along with the drum ring I had repaired. I can shift gears with my fingers test by turning the out pt shaft to see if was engaging ans low and behold it did so I guess i got it right. Got my fingers crossed it all goes well.

Oh P.S. I received my bands back form Transmission crafters and they did a first rate job. There was a 1 day delay in shipping because on of the bands after being relined had a chip in it so the QA guy called me notified me of this and they would ship the next day which they did. I will do business with them again. I love it when a company puts integrity over the almighty dollar.
