  • Transmission not working right

I have a 2008 Max IV 950T. It has 47 hours on it. When you go to back up, only 1 side of the drive is driving the wheels. (Left side) When you are going forwards, everything seems to operate properly. Anyone have any ideas?

my guess would be a bad diamond shifter pin. It sounds like it's a little worn and may only be pushing that side into neutral. Cheap fix though. No worries!

The most common problem that would cause that is that a pin is broken off the diamond shifter. Before you check that, just double check your shift linkage going back to your transmission to make sure it is connected and moving the diamond shifter on the right side, on top of the T20. If it is, then you should pull that diamond shifter out (just remove the two bolts on the plate that hold the diamond shifter down) and look at the pin to make sure it isn't worn. If it is, then you will want to replace it. To verify that is the problem, you can manually shift the transmission with the diamond shifter out by moving the shift collar carefully with a screwdriver. You should be able to get it to move into reverse and operate as it should.

That should be an easy fix. If that isn't the issue, then it could be more serious and you may have to tear down the transmission but start with the linkage and diamond shifter first.

      Edit: I'm too slow.
