  • heli coil size?

Anyone know the largest heli-coil that can be used for fixing worn out mounting holes on a T-20. The holes are wobbled out badly and I'm concerned about having enough thread to securely bolt transmission into my machine.
    Any ideas? Thanks, Jon.

    Yes:
J.B.Weld, they have several types, I tried a tube, two part epoxy, I applied to the bucket of my Bobcat, once it dried, I drilled and tapped it just like it was steel and its been holding up for nearly two years, so I know it will work for a t-20.

The 2 part apoxy stuff your talkin bout in the tube i beleive is called Magnum Steel. I was thinking it was made by either Permatex or loctite though..not jb?..

either way, the **** does wanders! lol i used it on my dualsport block once while i was out riding, i cracked a huge chunk oout of it, i found the chunk on the ground, and called my buddy. he brought oil, brake cleaner, and magnum steel, we cleand everything real good, magnum steeld it, messed around for like 30 mins, then filled it with oil and left. lol i rode it for like a year like that till i sold it that way..and the person who owns it now, rides it as his daily driver..lol...sooo....the proof is in the puddin! it works great!

for a helicoil in the T-20 case, I wouldn't go bigger than the 3/8-18 This has you drilling out some material from the case and cutting a bit more material out with the tap. The cases aren't really thick in the thread area. If the case is not useable as it is, then you could keep trying bigger and bigger till you get some threads that will hold. but at some point you will start getting weaker again as you get the boss in the case too thin. If it should crack/ or pull threads at that point, all you are out is your labor.... as it sits now the case is not useable, so your only risk is making it even more not useable... doesn't seem like a big risk to me
