  • You guys are always so helpful...so hows this weird T-20 story sound?

I have a 2001 Max II Just bought it last week. I decided after riding it for about 1.5 hours that I had better chang the fluids, tighten the chains ect... The transmission felt off, like maybe it needed adjusted as well. SO I do the whole nine, and adjust the left side a tad. Then after an hour trying to get something on that square plug in the tranny to drain it I get it loose. I am expecting fluid to come out...nothing. Then I run my sludge gun tube into it, pull back and about 4 oz of red crap comes out. SO I know it holds 32oz, which should be 1 quart of in my case B&M trick shift, and 4 oz slip additive. I am expecting it to hold only half quart or so, cause not alot came out. To my surprise it held 4oz of additive, and 24oz of fluid 28oz! before running out of the bottom hole.

Question: Where did the fluid go? This is an extremly low hour machine, it looks 85% new. Even the inside tub isnt all greasy. What I am saying, I dont think I have a leak. Was it never changed and it evaporated? Burned off? Maybe someone drained it, and didnt come close to putting enough back in? How bad has this damaged the T-20?

Crazy fact...Trick Shift by B&M went in, I sealed it up, started it and ran it for a half hour...I have owned 3 of these machines, this one is the most responsive and smoothest by far. Tranny feels great (now that it has fluid). SO whats your thoughts? Are they just that tough?

I highly reccommend Trick Shift BTW...$7 quart at autozone...synthetic ATF replacement.

    Please share your thoughts!!!

Mobil 1 is making ATF? It makes sense, I've just never seen it. Next time try just the synthetic fluid without the additive, it's easy enough to add it later if you are not happy with how it acts. I'll bet you won't notice the difference.

So anyone with any ides as to what happened? I saw the Mobil-1 stuff, thought about it...but the B&M read like it was made for the T-20...good stuff, about the same price as the Mobil-1

Who ever you bought it from may have cleaned out the tub. I clean mine out with simple green all the time. I'd fill it and run it and just keep an eye on it.

if the vented plug was put into the bottom hole, maybe corrected before you got it, that would explain where the fluid went but not why the tub is clean. maybe the simple green idea?
