  • If you Own a Machine with an Admiral Transmission you need to read this!

Saturday I was warming my machine up getting it ready to put on my trailer. When I put the machine in reverse and gave it gas the machine wouldn't move but made a small grinding noise that let me know it wasn't in gear.

I shifted into drive and the machine made the same noise but wouldn't move.

My mind shot back to RD's and BW6's post where they talked about new HDI's that wouldn't move when the owners engaged gears but the machines just made a grinding noise.

No way I thought. I reached up and shifted the machine into low range and hit the gas and the machine started to move. I breathed a quick sigh of relief and took the front panel off and looked at the shift mechanism which is spring loaded and activated by a cable switch on the dash.

The cable tension is adjusted with two bolts, one for adjustment and the other to lock the adjustment into place. This cable Stretches over time and must be adjusted to keep the spring loaded shift mechanism working properly.

In my case it was just a minor adjustment and I was on my way. So Admiral owners if it happens to you don't panic, make the adjustment and you'll be on you way.

Dan, was this the same problem that occured at Busco. We were telling me that you were having to maunally move a lever into position.

      Lewis
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Yes Lewis, the problem at Busco was nothing more than a minor adjustment, just a simple cable adjustment is all that it takes, don't panic and take the machine back to the dealer.

Also Dan i just wanted you guys to know that whenever you remove the engine cover or firewall always remove the shifter knob before i have been finding machines with the admiral sometimes not staying in gear this is due to a ball bearing located behind the shifter linkage that is prone to falling out if the lever is pulled back towards the seat this ball is what keeps the forward and reverse gear shifter locked in place i have found a few and sometimes you can find the ball bearing sitting on the floor of the machine.

Junkman, I appreciate that information and I will keep a close watch on that ball bearing from this point forward.
            Thanks dan
