  • clutch for diesel

well hello everyone i am new to this site, just bought a 78 argo 6x6..so as it stands has been sittin for "he" says 3 years, but I think more like 20! It has a 440 kohler in it which needs complete overhaul. I just bought a 13.7 hp yanmar diesel..(if its not 2 stroke it better be diesel!!!) so my question is can i use a clutch off the gasser v twin models? if so i know i can get one from commet, but maybe someone has one they dont want? also will i need to replace the primary or driven clutch? i hope not! And yes i am a cheap &^%$&*^ or i would do a complete resto! thanks and i cant wait to get creative with the help of argo vets!

as for the DRIVE cluth, i'd have to say that the 4 stoke's would work..but i dont know for sure. how many RPMS does your yanmar max out at? i cant see it being alot honestly. also, what RPM does it idle at? that will be another determining factor. Also, what size shaft does the motor have? I'd say those are the 3 main things to look at in this scenario. as for the DRIVEN clutch, not sure how argo does it, but i'd say it should work. You MAY need to change the spring in it though for more bottom end power seeing as your 2 stroke is a top end junkie, and the yanmar will be a down bottom hog!

    Just my opinion.

The clutch that mounts to the diesel will depend on the output shaft of the engine. You would be better off getting a new clutch from Argo or maybe Richards Relics. I know some Yanmars are 1", some 1 1/8". You will have to take a measurement for sure to determine which one you need.

You can change the weights around in the drive clutch to make it accommitdate a the lower rpm's of the diesel. Carts Parts Plus can do this for you.
