Please post pictures....I just cant get how the crank snapped. Some older cheaper engines used a "cast" crank that is not near as tough as a "forged" modern chromoly alloy crank.
I'm not a metal specialist, but both cranks should be far stronger than the aluminum of the clutch
You mentioned the puller being stuck threaded in... it should only thread into the outer of the clutch, not into the crank...it will bottom out in the hole there.
If the crank did snap off, you still should be able to separated them because the puller bolt pushes against the crank. Are you using an impact?

It almost sounds like your puller is jammed in the hole at the end of the shaft. If you can back it out (Try it with an impact gun if you have one) then drop a ball bearing the same diameter as the hole (Usually 3/8 inch) and run the puller back in. Then heat the clutch with a propane torch and thighten the puller till you have some good force on it and either crack the head of the puller with a hammer or just use an impact gun and tighten more. Repeat as needed. The aluminum clutch should expand faster with the heat than the steel shaft that is stuck in it.It's all just nuts and bolts.
