  • Jeep transmission in a 6x6??

I used to be heavy into jeeps.I had 2 cj7's a cj8,cherokees,grand cherokees you name it.Now looking back at the 79 cj7 I had the transmission was extremly small,it was a standard shift t150 3 speed.I remember buying a spare one for $20.Well all thats behind me now,but with me always thinking about my scrambler 6x6 I wonder if anyone has ever used a jeep transmission??I know the older jeeps like the cj3 and cj5 had even smaller transmissions from 72 and before.I think my 1979 cj7 t150 was only 9" long with the transfer case not attached.Anyway just a thought that I am sure some one else has thought about,It would be quite simple to put a sprocket on the output shaft of the trans.

... and what are you planning to steer the beast ?

the easy way from the junkyard is a small front wheel drive engine/auto transaxle but you will still have to make a disk brakes system to steer the beast.

Good point LOL!-Man thats a great steering brake web sight! Thanks a million-I will begin thinking-my plan was to use the jeep trans as jackshaft so when its in neutral I could still use the scramblers braking-drive system-but put the jeep in reverse gear to to back it up,Heck I dont know really know,I already made my own 40t split sprocket and attached it to the main shaft,I tried to use a starter with a sprocket welded to it but it was too weak,I think I am going to use the cheap harbor freight winch to attach a 40t sprocket to the drum,I found a couple guys on the web who did this quite easily.with 153-1 ratio it will be much stronger than a starter.Just type in adding a sprocket to a harbor freight winch and you should be directed to the same sights I found. Some people are adding large sprockets to thos wiches to make heavy duty drive systems.
