  • T20 laterals adjustment

Is there a set rule at how far in or out the 9/16's bolts that operate the forward and reverse should be? I can steer. But I'd like to fine tune it.

There is a tool that you can buy and then you need a inch pounds torque wrench and a slim wall deep socket. I asked Richards Relics and they sell the tool and there is a good tear down and rebuild on here under manuals and on route 6x6 under how too's. Relics told me if the plunger is flush or just below ,with housing when lateral is pulled back all the way that you should be okay. I had mine all apart and adjusted with a make shift tool,10mm wrench ground to fit under the bolt and lock clip in u channels. I then tightened enough until I had to "tap" the wrench /tool out of channel.Upon usage and inspecting the plungers,I have the bottom plungers protruding from housing 1/4''.I was told I should have mic'd the bands first.20/20 so this spring I will order a another kit and teardown again. I am sure there are more experienced Sixxers out here to correct me if need be.Hope this helps you some.

There is a much easier solution to the problem.....a common tool that everyone has.......a screwdriver!
Just cut a slot in each bolt head.

Don't go through Richard's Relics for anything unless you plan on grossly overpaying for anything. Jim's suggestion is an inexpensive and simple fix. Also, you could make your own tool based on the specs here:

I spoke with Jay at Recreatives and he stated that they suggest that the laterals move front to rear a total of 7 inches of travel. My laterals only move around 4 to 5 inches total front to rear. The plungers at the top and the bottom do not come out of the transmission case at all but stay about 1/8 to 1/4 inch inside the case. There seems to be some type of goop (epoxy?) around the opening in the case. I tried to back the bolts out of the plungers but the lower one is nearly impossible to get to and it would not come out of the locking plate. Can anyone tell me if the end of the plungers are actually supposed to exit the case when moving the laterals? I tried to use the "get them equal and adjust the travel to 5/16 total on the u-channel" method and that was also fruitless with the transmission in the machine. These things were not ergonomially designed to work on!
