  • keep blowing seals on the T-20

hey guys I thought I would ask the experts about this darn thing! the other day i was out in the trail playing around for like 4 hours, of course stopping and enjoying the nice view every once in awhile. On my way home the seal opposite of the clutch (right side of trans blew! I had steam and the great smell of atf all over the place. I got it home, popped the seal back in,drained the rest of the atf out, flushed the trans with atf and then added a quart as I was informed buy some of our expert members. Well I took it out the other day and the seals leaking. Is there a part number that anybody knows of that I can have napa cross reff? or do I have to pull the tranny and replace the seal? If I cant get it from napa where can I get it?
    thanks in advance guys

Check your vent plug. If the vent's stopped up, there's nowhere for the pressure to go when the tranmission gets hot and it comes out the path of least resistance: usually the seals. I get seals from Motion Industries and the number is SKF #17184. I think it crosses to CR #44X72X8 CRW1 R. Good luck!

It should be on top above the oil level.
The vent is a must...make sure its clear.
I use a skim of high temp silicone on the outside of seals to hold them in place.

Output shaft seals are $9.81 at motion industries......yes, both sides are the same.
Your fill plug will have a breather hole in it (filled with air stone). And to change the seals the whole trans will have to be disassembled.

The top plug should have a vent in it. If there's no drilling in the plug, it may be the wrong one. Many times they'll get stopped up and not work. If you need to, you can make your own from a PCV vent from an auto parts store and a barb fitting. They work great. Both the output seals are the same.

Bazoo guy- good tip! Sometimes I find it's a good idea to center punch a few spots around the outside of the seal to snug it up a bit, too.

The part#'s can change by mfgr. All the suppliers can cross refernce that # though.
OR, use the size 44x72x8 nitrile seal.
