  • comet salisbury 780 drive 770 driven questions

First question is...is this a 780 and a 770? They are on my Super Swamp Fox.

Second question is....how do I get this thing to go back to the way it's supposed to be because I don't think its supposed to be like this.

    Any info/help is greatly appreciated.

The drive clutch will snap back into place if you squeeze on the dome and faceplate CAUTION!!!!! MIND YOUR FINGERS AND PALMS AS IT WILL SNAP BACK WITH FORCE. I assume you ran the engine without the belt?

The secondary appears to be unsprung or was assembled wrong. We need some more info on how it came to be like this. It looks like to me that when assembled you didn't clock it far enough to engage the spring.

Yep you are correct I ran it without the belt not knowing that would happen, as far as the secondary I have no clue. I bought it from my cousin recently and everything was working but the belt was dry rotted and I fried it on the shallow end of my bosses pond (very thick mud). I was thinking of pulling the secondary apart and putting in a red spring. Considering my cousin had it I wouldn't be surprised if it was put together wrong. What are your thoughts?

It's actually a good thing that I ran it without the belt because the other day I was looking at it and I realised there was a nut missing so I replaced it and lubed it with some chain lube, probobly why it looks so nasty, however I do plan on cleaning the belt surfaces when I put on the new belt monday when it comes in.
