  • SHifter F/R T20 stiff to operate

    Hi,
as the title suggests the T20 diamond shifters are hard to shift .
The cause was corrossion [caused by excessive condensation ] when cover was on machine. I also live in a very tropical climate .
The diamond shifters are corroding around the retainer circlip
Q Apparently the late model do not use the circlip ???

    Hi Tomo,

You're correct. The later model T-20's don't have the circlip to hold the diamond shifters in. They use a plate bolted to the top side of the case half.

      Hi
Is the corrosion/sticky shifter problem common and therefore why the later T20 do not use this ????
Who has experienced this problem ???

      cheers

The circlips are a total P.I.T.A. I refuse to put them back in. As far as the sticky shifters, I have seen it before. Without the circlips it is easy to pull a retaining plate, remove the shifter, wipe it and the bore clean, and reinsert with a little grease. Good to go!

I agree with Jim, ditch the clips. Then make it part of your routine to shoot some wd-40 on top of the shifter mechanism to keep moisture out and corrosion away.
