  • shifting issue t20 max IV

I have a 94 max IV the transmission will shift manually on the passenger side and all is well but it won't engage with the shifter. Could someone tell me how to fix? it seems that the shifting rod slips in and out the clip and doesn't pull it all the way forward?
    Please help. Thanks Kris

It sounds like a bad shifter pin on your diamond shifter. You need to pull it out and check for wear. It could also be bent linkage but my money is on the pin.

what is the clip that goes around the shiffting rod, the passenger side slips back and forth through it and the driver side seems secure? There are two locking nuts on the back side of the shiffting rods. If I reach under the passenger side and manually pull it forward with my hands it goes in gear. Is it the shiffting arm that may be loose?

If it is what i think you are talking about, it is meant to slide back and forth and will do so on both sides. You are probably going to have to pull the engine to take a look and see what i am talking about. There is no room to really do anything on the t20 of a max iv with the engine in.

So why is it that the other side doesn't slide through the loop, and it engages fine?

The pin is jamming and worn. I helped another member fix the same issue, but his would not go in reverse on the right. It could be possible that you linkage is bent or disconnected, but either way you have o take the engine and engine mount off. It is an easy job but best done with beer and at least 1 friend.

Sweet, I will let you know how it goes. Gotta love a friend and a beer. I'm thinking this maybe a RED SOLO CUP filled with Jack and Coke kinda work ya?

Ok, buddy and I had many drinks and all fixed. What happen is that the shiffting rod was frozen up, by trying to force it in gear the pin jumped out of the slot (no damage) ordered the easy shift kit from richards relics installed and it works perfectly. Appreciate your help.
