  • T-20

After 3 people tried to rebuild the T-20, the center housing plate won't sit flush with the case. What do you all think it can be? All the parts are there (except the fill plug).

Not quite sure what you mean without a pic but make sure when assembling that the long pins that hold the bands are lined up with the hole for them in the center plate otherwise it won't seat properly.

If you have an old style t-20 that wasn't meant to have fiber washers......but you put them in anyway. That could cause it.

After going back and re-reading....did you mean when it is half assembled? If you assemble the input shaft case half with the input shaft supporting the weight of the components, it won't go back together that way. You need a bench with a hole in it for the shaft to poke through. Otherwise the input shaft pushes up on the center plate via the sun gear/c clip.

That's what Jim i think his name said at RI too. Its a newer skid steer t-20. The clutch is still attached too and yes I am talking when it is half assembled. Also the shift collar isn't real "sharp". Could this cause a later shifting problem. The shift collar isn't that bad.Could I file them down to make it sharp again? Sorry I don't have pics to show exactly what I'm dealing with. RI told me a shift collar is $150. I got the bands re-lined from TC (thanks for the recommendation) and should be here tomorrow morning, along with a new throttle cable, fuel filter, T-20 seal kit, and fill plug from RI this week.

            Transmission Crafters

Transmission Crafters is really a great place to re-line T-20 bands. At just $35 a piece, I was able to get a 2 day turn around (excluding time for shipping)! Thanks guys for recommending TC and should I soak them in ATF and what type ATF?
