If the clutch face, on either the driver or driven clutch have tracking grooves, do they need to be replaced or can they be resurfaced? I would think if you put them on a lathe and use a file or emery cloth that could do it ? Once the grooves are removed, what kind of surface do I want for best clutch performance, polished smooth or lightly sanded ?

I don't think there is enough meat in the clutch faces to machine them smooth. I've seen a couple clutches break at the "groove", and there's not much there.
I just live with mine untill it starts effecting performance, then replace them. I got about 700 hrs on the last ones, before they started to really bug me.
