  • amphicat b7 trans in a scrambler?

I have the opportunity to buy a beat up old amphicat-its basically a parts rig-it has a odg b7 trans, not the better plunger type.Is the b7 trans decent? In the never ending search of putting a rev erse in one of my other scramblers I am asking the members their opininion.I did put a reverse on one scrambler using a dc winch motor but I still would rather have a true reverse.Seems the b7 trans is hard to find any info on.-

I have a b7 trans. Its just a gear box with forward/n/r. They had clutch packs on each side of the machine similar to a Stalker or scrambler kinda.

Is it worth the trouble?-I will be getting the whole rig and usually I end up getting the parts rig going because its easier and cheaper to do.I have an attex that I need to reassemble,it has a bh 6000-new bearings but the tub is shot so it will be a ground machine only,I have 1 scrambler I completely rebuilt and put way to much money in-I have another scrambler I bought and got the sachs running and I just got done rebuilding that trans.I might need to get a couple sprockets for it as some teeth are screwed on the rear axle. Now I sure dont need the amphicat but the price is right and I am broke-Which means a great deal always comes up.If I have a wallet full of cash then I cant seem to find anything. How is the b7 compared to a t20?

Your parts machines end up turning to runners too? lol
The b7 is just a gear box while the t-20 is a transmission. You could connect the gearbox to the baker hill 6000 or the scrambler drive unit if you wanted. I always had an idea of putting a baker hill in my b7 cat with a great body. The amphicat and attex bodys are real close. You could even swap uppers and lowers. So if you did it right, you could have 4 headlights or none, lol.

            lol
One word of caution so you dont end up like I did. Dont collect to many. You will soon have a bunch of projects and machines but no time to do anything with any of them. Im hoping by the end of summer I can have my house sold and a nice pole barn some where else. Then I can start collecting my parts and get organized a little better so I can start putting my machines back together so I can tear my trainer apart, lol.

Thats right Flippy, 6x6's are better than girlfriends or wives. They don't complain. If you ride another one they don't get jealous. The older they get, the more desirable they are, and the more they are worth. Body overhauls are much cheaper, and with a few mods you can get them to do just about anything you want them too. And finally, when you jump in from behind, they don't yell at you and tell you your doing it wrong.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!
