My factory clutch broke the back plate broke and i bought a comet duster instead of the factory type. my problem is the new comet duster the keyway isnt cut all the way through the comet duster clutch like the factory. I seen that id have to modify it a bit i had to cut my keyway about a inch off it so the new clutch would slide all the way up on the shaft and the new clutch wants to hit the motor on the back side so i think ill have to put another washer behind it idk. has anyone had this problem and had to modify stuff or made one work and how and did it do ok? its a 18hp Van MaxVi i hate to modify stuff just to install a new clutch. Just wondering if anyone has had same problem and what u had to do. Thanks.

If you have enough of the old clutch to reinstall on the engine get the measurement from the flats on the engine side case to base of clutch face. Shim the duster to match so belt alignment stays proper. I usually shim the duster at the end of the crank with washers. It's very common th have to modify or shim when changing brands of clutches. The duster with pink spring and 6 pucks usually engages a bit higher than the stock clutch. I add 3 more picks but don't remember the gram weight. Got engagement to 1600 rpm. Hope this helps
