  • T20 band lining

Does anyone know what kind of material is used to reline and where to purchase said material?

Thanks for the reply zfish. I'll probably go with your suggestion. I found out about them on this great site. But we always try to take "do it yourself " to the highest level. Maybe somebody has more information about the actual lining material.

Back to the top with my question. The guys in albany,GA are providing a fine service. But if we could just buy the lining material ourselves. It would sure help out all us do it yourselfers.

Production tools would be.....but there are always things you can do to get around it. You could use an old trans, modify it to use the existing drum/band setup and just pull on the plunger to seat the lining till the glue sets up. I don't know if the glue is epoxy or heat activated, but either would work.

I'm all for saving money by doing things myself, but it would only take one failure to outweigh the cost of a few reline jobs from TC. For the product they provide and the price they charge, we'll stick with them.

My sentiments exactly, didn't want to rain on anyones parade, but, one failed adhesive "experiment" could eaisly result in one(or more) damaged drum(s).then what?

Thanks for all of the replies.I do understand the"what if" point of view and realize that everyone has different skill and confidence levels. There is probably a lot of people who would not trust bands that had been relined by anyone and demand brand new. Then theres the ones that feel the common man needs an actual "mechanic" to do all there transmission work period.I welcome all points of view and any replies, but back to my original question. What is the actual material ,where can we buy it?

I don't know what they use.

I suspect nobody on the site knows. We're all very quick to help with answers here if we have them.

I think the mat'l on a new band measures aprox .045 thk x about 1/2" wide.
                          McMaster-Carr

This is the closest size,of readily avail to the public, friction materials that I have located. I have no clue as how to reduce the thickness from .187" down to .045 or how to cut the width to aprox 1/2". Also, these guy's(McMaster) are generally quite helpfull in recomending things such as adhesives and what. The lack of any suggestions/recomendations in the description section has my attention. Good luck, keep us posted. I,for one am all for circumventing the standard, within reason.
