T-20 broken mounting bolts

Has anyone had this happen to them? Is there a solution to prevent this from happening again? Yesterday my son and I started doing some basic maintenance on our 2002 Max 4. We discovered the lower front left transmission mounting bolt was missing. One thing led to another and after pulling the engine and stand we found that both lower rear transmission mounting bolts were broken and the remaining lower front bolt was loose. I bought our MAX used and overhauled it the about 4 years ago, all mounting bolts were installed, tighten and the locking washers were installed.

In addition to having the broken bolts removed, We think that it’s a good time to overhaul the T-20, it seem to be leaking oil around one of the drive shafts. Are there any suggestions who can do this work?

Dealing with the same thing right now. From what I have learned this happens a lot .

I install the front brackets from RI that were added I 2008. They weld in and add 2 more bolts to the transmission mounts. On the models with the slotted frame holes I like to install the full upgrade kit. Also requires welding but makes the mount area and chain adjusters much stronger. A local kid has a 27 hp IV that he runs hard,broke two bolts before adding front brackets. Has run three years now no problems. Hope this helps

Does any one have any pictures of the upgrade kit? My Max has thru holes it does not have slotted holes and it has bolted on front brackets. From the description It sounds like my Max already has the upgrade. On a positive note, I was able to remove the broken bolts without damaging the transmission case.

In the manual section here under MAX scroll down through the wiring diagrams and the factory drawings of the frame upgrade kit are there. The weld on ears for the front that were added in 2008 are page 3. I replace the factory mount bolts with grade 8 also. It dosent look like much but makes a big deal of strength. Good luck

Dont trust loc washers use nyloc nuts.
