  • Clutch issues maybe?

Mid 80's Argo. 16hp Tecumseh. In neutral if I rev the motor the belt will rise to the top of the primary clutch. When in gear and I'm moving with it wide open the belt will not rise. I feel I can walk faster then the machine can drive. Is this normal or should I be looking for something. Also has a new belt on.
What tranny would I have in this thing. There's a low and high forward speed.

Does the engine rev up when in gear?
If your engine lacks the power to advance the belt thru the clutches......

Be sure the secondary clutch opens smooth...it could be seized and the sliders need to be greased.

The engine seems to have a decent amount of power. I have nothing to compare it to though. If I can get it started this weekend I'll look to make sure the secondary is smooth. The started went last weekend and the replacement is on order.

Well I got it started with the pull cord. Not easy at all! When I rev it up the secondary opens and closes. Seems to be smooth. Never got to drive it. When I jumped into the machine to try it out it died. I had no more energy to get it going. I'll need to wait for the starter. This machine seems like its going to be nothing but problems.
