Hey Bud, I just now read your message about hard starting on the vanguard.. sorry. Don't remember if you upped the compression or not, but just losing the compression release on the stock cam can cause hard starting. The tighter you run the valve lash, esp on the intake, the later it closes and that can help cranking. Also if you go through the starter, clean out the gap between commutator segments, and lube the bushings, etc. They say it helps to increase the battery cable size..
