  • Trackster, Good luck with the DMV. I went to the NYSDMV website to get their requirements to register an ATV. I printed the pages out so I made sure I met the requirements for registration. You've probably found out that the DMV thinks our machines are UTV's or boats. They define an ATV as "manufactured specifically for offroad or trail use, must be less than 70" wide and have an unladen weight of less than 1000 pounds". I took my origional owners manual for the Max that showed its specifications proving it is an ATV. I also had to be a little creative proving ownership. I bought my Max about 30 years ago. It was never registered,no paperwork to prove I owned it. I had a friend write up a "bill of sale"for a couple of years ago, and filled out form MV51B saying it had been in his family since new and the paperwork had been lost. Just less than truthful, but really the only way I think they would accept that I owned it. Be patient and be prepared. Again, good luck. Dave
