    primary clutch identification

    I have a 99 max 11 16 hp vanguard v twin primary clutch makes clunk noise when it disengages lookk at the video how to rebuild didnt look like mine hopeing thats the broken peace of metel I found in tub but it still work ok thanks for eny feed back

    Hi Ed,

    More than likely, you've got a Comet 780 primary clutch in your Max. It would be a good idea to take the clutch apart and inspect it for broken parts; it's not uncommon for them to spit out a chunk of roller if they've lived a hard, un-maintained life. It's a very easy process and there's no risk of anything blowing up and taking your eye out if you just take the cover off. What's the piece of metal look like? We like carnage; post a picture!

    Thnks mike on info with pitchers but I'm still at a lost computer's and I don't get along but did find out it is my comet clutch the peace is off where the rollers ride so looks like i''m in the market for a new one , the weld shop said that they could weld it but no guarantee it will last due to the pressure

    In shopping around found comet clutch for $226.00 from RI ebay does this sound about right for the price anyone know thanks

    Thanks a buntch will be ordering thes week end grandson had to go rideing tuesday I had to barrow a quad miss my max water holes were deep and he got cold when his boots filled with water !!!! Grandma was real happy about the water porring out of his boots. Thhanks again for all the replys
