Thank you for the info. I didn't know the seal might cut a groove in the axle. I'll be sure to check the axle when I remove it.

Hi RG welcome to the site.
every 25 hrs of usage 20 if I am running a lot of swamp or sandy dusty conditions.

I suspend the machine remove all the wheels then with it running and in gear, I bath the chains with a big paintbrush soaked in varsol or if I am lazy I use my pressure washer with pine sol instead of soap after it drains I shut it off then I check all the axles for bearing play while everything dries.
Then I re lube the chains and grease the bearings it works out faster and easier than trying to do this with the tires in place.

Allso with it up in the air a bit you dont have to bend over quite so far for the inners and chains.

Thank you for the recommendations. I've got the Avenger wrapped up in a large tarp for the winter. We're "saving" it for next summer.

that seems strange , normally when the bearings go the axle will have play up and down , is the bolt that holds the axle in place at its end < inside> tight? there are also set screws that hold the axle in the bearings < two on each>
i know that when my bearings go i can lift the wheel and feel the play in there , and if it goes on to long then it will destroy the flange that holds the seals in the end as well.

Your comments does make a lot of sense, but unfortunately I can't remember enough if the axle moved up enough to convince me its good/bad. It did /does move in and out. We have it stored away under a tarp for the winter, and I'll be sure to re-check it come next summer. Thanks for the help.
