Well.........I hesitate to share my secrets, but...there was an old aftermarket company called SouthWind heaters that sold their GASOLINE powered car heaters throught Stewart Warner here in the USA. One man has bought the entire stock of these heaters and is selling them. They are simple, safe, and reliable. I'm ordering one for my Conquest. My uncle used these heaters in his old hot rods and VW kit cars. They work great and use the gasoline from the carburetor float bowl. Heres the link:

So, are you running it from your Argo battery, with some kind of resistor to make your power 6volts?

Mooselegs minus 40-50 is colder than I have been forced to endure, but my argo avenger does put out a lot of heat. especially when you are running it hard, like snow tracks etc. there is no doubt that the hdi s run a bit hotter than mine. I pull my coffee cup holders out so that the air blown by the rad fan keeps the windshield clear. as a note my 31 hp. kohler seldom goes over 170 f. i have seen a trick where the space around the exhaust pipe in the metal box is restricted from exiting by a piece of metal plate. This seems a little dangerous to me but I guess it depends how cold it is. best wishes

Another thing about those heaters is if they are anything like the borg Warner? that I had in my vw, it takes up a ton of space. I think if I'm going to risk carbon monoxide I would rather just use engine heat and a portable cheap detector like an airplane has.
