  • First contact with Argo mechanic

Today i tried my first job on my Argo. Just whant to take out both clutch for maintenance since they where pretty dirty. Guess what...I could not take out the allen bolt on the Driver clutch and could not take the other clutch out of the shaft...

I am now waiting for the WD40 to do the job for me...

    Argo 1 Vortex 0.

How come it's always seems easy in RD video??? I'm starting to think that everithing is staged!!!

Judicious use of anti-seize. Buy the big bottle with the brush in the top.

Of course that doesn't help you the first time. He just doesn't show us the first times...

Its not that he doesn't show them. Site rules prohibit extreme use of vulgar language so they can't be shown without major editing.

Vortex, see if you can get some PBlaster or Break Free. WD40 is best as an air freshener in the shop. For the drive clutch, clean out the socket of the screw real good then take a nice allen key that hasn't been cammed out before and hold it with your finger and rap the end of it with a small hammer. Impact works best to break it free. Be certain your turning it CCW. Let the secondary clutch soak and you should be able to get behind it with a piece of 2x2 a give it a few taps. Just take it easy, don't hit it too hard,it will work loose eventually.

I have just buy a bottle of PB...So me and my new best friend will show thoses clutchs how to behave...

Do you hold the driver clutch with a wrench while you turn the allen key or just hold it by hand?

              Thanks again for your support....

Bonjour!! Can i get some hunting videos en englasi Sevou plais? Ok im done butchering the french language... but i would love to know what your saying old buddy! Back to your questions.... DO NOTHING TO HARM YOUR CLUTHCHES to hold them use a piece of ratchet strap, 3 or 4 wraps... and a stick to make it tight. For the allen headed screws that dont want to turn, spend the extra money to get a "T" handle wrench. Give it 2 or 3 whacks with a hammer while your trying to turn it! IF that dont work, get a propane torch and put it on the troublesome fastener for 2 or 3 minutes AFTER wiping off acess PB or WD-40 lubes... yes they will light of fire!

You can also get the hex bits that will fit on the end of the 3/8 ratchet. Here is an example but they are way to expensive. These will give you a good bit on the socket head.
SK Tools 9 Piece 3/8" & 1/2" Drive Metric Hex Bit Socket Set - 19734

If the head strips out use a socket head bolt extractor like these which are tapered and you drive them in to remove stubborn bolts.

                  Google Image Result for http://www.nolansupply.com/small_images/38962.jpg

Once you have removed the bolt and if the clutch still is stuck raise the side of the machine and spray the shaft and the pb will slide down the shaft and do the job(rotate occasionally). Let it sit and soak in for at least 30 mins. Hope this helps.

Nothing new tonight about thoses freacking stubborn clutchs.

Put some PB again...Tap tap tap...PB...Tap tap tap...

Will continu treatement for a couples of days...They will break...They all break with time...

I think i hear the secondary clutch scream when i approach the PB bottle tonight...We are slowly going somewhere.

Also starting to think about adding a new law for Argo owner.

                    Forget to put anti-seize:
First offence: - offender must write 100 times: "I will not forget Anti-seize again."
Second offence: -offender must pay 1 000$ to the Anti-seize fondation for sick children.
Third offence: -offender must pass psychological evaluation he is obviously crazy...

Thanks again for all your comments...I will defenitly buy a small ratchet allen kit.

                            Hey congrats!

I just removed mine this week as well and was having trouble getting it off until I switched to my longer handle ratchet driver which got it off without much problem. The swearing didn't come until the key fell out of the shaft and disappeared into the bowels of argo land for at least 15 minutes

Argo does advise blue loctite on the bolt so a bit of heat might help as well.
