Spookum...wondering if I should remove the old engine mount area and get it down to the inner frame and then re-fit the motor to ride a little lower? with using the exsisting mounts it sits a little too high and I will need to raise the engine even furthere than the exsisting motor mount to clear the brake rotor on the left side. The oil filter is VERY close to the brake rotor when I have it set in there. Just getting down in there ot bolt the new motor in is going to be a chore in itself. Good times to come I guess! Maybe I sould just pull the entire frame out and mount everything up and then re-install and hope for the best? I would rather not do that because taking stuff apart that already works fine may lead to more work in the end. Ahhh the life!

In a nut shell: be carefull about cutting deeper into the Argo for clearance. You should not cut past the top of the power pack, as this is important to achieve propped chain tension. I don't understand why you are having Clearence issues.... What motor is it????? If you are using the clutch off of the old engine (make sure that you can get parts for it still) f ind the belt width. Then go down to the parts store ( or snow mobile shop would be best) and get a longer belt and move the engine forward away from then move it forward. Also, there is no need to remove the frame (unless u are doing the frame extensions). Go ahead and pull the power pack skid. Should be two 3/4 inch bolts on the outside of the frame under the trans and one under the engine.

Also, you should repost in the engine forum. I'm good at mounting geo motors, but if your doing a Briggs, they will have a better idea. Also, if you click on "spookum" there is a way to email me. I'm going to artic man, alaska, and that will be the best way to get ahold of me

Engine is in! going to have to make a small hood scoop to clear the air cleaner, but the clutches look good and everything seems to line up nicely so far. I still need to find a gas tank of sorts and any ideas on that would be awesome. We do have a boat tank that will probably make its way into the machine soon. We went with a Lifan 22hp V-Twin, with a comet 94C Duster clutch. I had to get one belt size bigger to fit properly and engage when it was supposed to. New Idler chains, and all that is left is to fabricate a new exhaust and put the top back on and it should be ready to do some wheeling.

Anyone know where I might be able to find a firewall for a mid 70s 8x8?

        Slowly making headway!

Thanks again for all your help out there!

You may have to put a 4 stroke spring in your driven, but give it a try first and see what it does.
