Having some trouble with the brakes on my 02 conquest. Went to go for a ride a couple weeks ago and when I went to turn the left tiller bar had no pressure. It just came all the way down to my knee while the other one only had a couple inches of play before engaging. Bleed the brakes and had same play as on the right side...good to go.

Went trouting with my son that evening and no problems going to the pond. When I was getting ready to come home there was no brakes again on the left side (about 20 minutes driving and 1 hour sitting by the pond). Tried to bleed the brakes again but with no luck. There was lots of fluid by the caliper but no pressure building up. Came home with just one brake. Interesting ride....

Took the master cylinder apart and noticed a couple small notches taken out of the rubber plunger seals. Hopefully this will fix my problem.

Before I start to put everything back I had a quick question for members...Should the 2 vent holes on the bottom inside the cylinder be free? I can put an allan key down the one closest to the plunger about an inch but the one in front will not allow me to put the key in at all. Should both holes allow me to put the allen key in about 1 inch?

    Sorry for the essay....

I'm not positive but think not, one should be restricted or orificed pressure and one unrestricted return. There should be different sized bores inside if remembering correctly. Can check Friday if wanted.

One port is about 1/8" the other is very small maybe .020". The small hole has the pressure seal pass over it and has to be small so it dosent allow the seal to be cut in the port. Seal kits are reasonable as long as the bore is smooth reseal it. Use the correct fluid DOT 5 here.

So I replaced the seals in the maaster cylinder but things did not go as planned. I am unable to bleed the brakes. When iI try to pump the brake lever there is no pressure building up. Removed the brake bline from the master cylinder and placed my finger over the hole and still there was no presseure.

          Any advise???????

Try to slacken the adjustment on the plunger rod, if the cylinder does not completely close it will never bleed right.

Try this, remove the stick from the machine and fill the master leaving cap off, open bleeder placing a rag at bleeder to catch the fluid. Let it run until no bubbles remain and a slow but steady flow comes. Tighten bleeder, replace cap, put on stick and go. Hopefully. This will take about 20 minutes total per side, the systems bleed funny and any pressure on master will not let all the air escape.
If that does not work I would venture to say the caliper is leaking internally. They too are rebuildable but don't always seal right.

Have not had a chance to get back at it...have to work on brakes on my car first today. Calipers seem fine. There is no fluid coming from the master cylinder. I removed the brake line from the master cylinder and ttried to see if there was any fluid at that point and there was non. I have a syringe that I am going to use to pump fluid into the master cylinder as well.

Have you ever had those days where everything seems to go wrong. Well I have been having them for the past couple weeks. First brakes on the argo went and could not get them to bleed properly, then different parts on the car started to go (mostly involving brakes). Well today my luck changed (knock on wood). Got everything fixed on my car and finally got the brakes bleed on the argo. Now just have to take the two for a test run.

                            Thanks for all the advise.
