    Beadlock

Mike, Thx for the quick reply, pardon me for being kind of dense here, but I don't understand what a beadlock is?? Is it something on the rim?? Let me know, sounds like something worth my while.
    Thanks

Beadlock is a term we throw around loosely here, to describe wheels that will hold a bead at low or no air pressure. Kawasaki makes them for Max in 8 and 12". Argo's 9" wheels are bad about losing tire beads even at 3 psi. The runamuk and frontier tires don't have a problem staying mounted on the 8" wheels. So you can air down with abandon. You'll like it, too. 2.5 is what I'd run. Maybe less in the back. Depends on how hard you are riding, how heavy loaded, how rough the terrain. If you came from 5, to 3, keep going a little more. Changes the whole capability and ride.

We do use the term loosely. Normally a beadlock wheel clamps the bead of a tire to the rim in one of several ways. When we say beadlocks here though, it usually refers to rims that have a raised bead around the inside of the wheel to create an artificial groove for the tire to sit in. This way if a tire is hit laterally it keeps the tire from sliding in on the wheel and losing the bead.

            Thanks Mike

I see what you're talking about now. According to Roger S, my Frontier rims won't have any problems but don't know if they have that type of rim.

You only need a better "beadlock" wheel, if the stock setup on any vehicle doesn't cut the mustard. Beadlocks cure problems, but the stock frontier wheel and tire doesn't have the problem to start with..

You are right, it does give you much better traction as well as a softer ride. It allows the tires to conform better to the terrain and grip around it. As far as losing the bead, if you have a beadlock on your wheel you can drop the pressure down to 1psi and be fine.

I just made a trip into my cabin with 20 sheets of 1/4" plywood in the Argo. My budy thought he would be winching me half the way into the lake, but it turned out that we winched each other 2 times. I had HUGE traction with all that weight sticking out 5 feet past the back of the machine. The weight itself was not a problem, it was the imbalance of the load. I had to back up the steap hills to keep it on the wheels

So far I have seen 2 frontier tires pushed off the bead, but we had no problems putting them back on. Both of them were from hitting stumps at just the right angle to push them off the rim.
I have also had the pleasure of smashing an Avenger tire off the rim. It was a little harder to put back on, but it was off on both sides.
