  • Hitch Mount and Custom Platform

So I purchased the hitch mount for $29. I read online and saw that it is only rated for 100lb of tongue weight and 1800lb of pulling. I used 5/16 bolt and as I was tightening them down I heard a giant crack. The bolt broke, but more importantly the frame inside actually caved in. Must have been weak or partly rusted. So I welded it up then put a 1/4 steel backer plate to help add strength.

Unfortunately, whoever had the unit before me snapped a bolt in one of the holes and I could not get it out. I tried using an extractor and drill it to no avail, so I am stuck with only three bolts holding it on.

I ordered grade 8 bolts and nuts so I can really tighten the three down and make sure it is nice and secure.

I then cut and re-welded a platform for extra storage, guns, coolers, etc. I also plan on adding plywood to make some custom mud flaps so everything doesn't get covered in mud.

I think it came out good!

Last year we needed to move 2 concrete blocks, weighing about 5,000 lbs a piece. We used a chain to the 2" receiver with a clevis to anchor the Avenger to a tree. Then we ran the winch cable out, back and out again to a set of slings around the block. We skidded them one at a time about 12' total. We were putting snow on the winch motor itself (a 4,500# Rule) to help keep it cool. It moved them and made it so we didn't have to build a cabin where we were at..
