Philip when I had the 10 hp go devil long tail it would reach out approx 5 ft from the back of my max then I would do just like you said, shut it down and spin it into the max. I took the roll cage off and it would sit on the back seat facing up in the air. It worked well but it was a pain in the a$$. It seemed like it was always to cumbersome for the use it got. But you live up in Gods country where you can get on a body of water and go forever and not have 30 people around. Down here it’s quite different, lots of people and not a lot of untouched water. The reason I say this is those motors are unforgiving they will move your max but they can hurt you. I can’t help you much on your other machine but I can’t imagine it’s much different. It may be a little better if the motor is up front because of weight. I will say with the mud motor on my max there was no need to steer with the tires you could steer just fine with the mud motor. I hope this helps some. Pm me if you need my number I’ve used these motors for about 30 years, now they have kits so you can build your own and offset the motor. Another quick thought I have a couple of 3 -5 hp outboard motors that were from the 70s they have the fuel tank on top they don’t use a impeller they’re just air cooled Scotty fisher is one brand and Sears is another, I think gamefisher still makes them. They are light and air cooled. We use them on poles in our impoundments to keep the water open for ducks when we get ice.

Thanks for the detailed reply Delduck. I am really interested in an air cooled extra long shaft motor. You mentioned earlier, a 10 hp Go Devil so I tried to look one up. I found a video on a 9 hp Go Devil that listed at about $35 hundred dollars. Funny that you mention air cooled motors like Sears and Scotty Fishers. I have tried to mount one or even 2 Briggs and Stratton 5 hp. air cooled motors but their short shafts make them mostly unusable. Before I make any big decisions I will PM you. Thanks

Please do and if you can give me a transom length. I think you need a 25” long shaft I’ll look out for something. I know your up there in the duck factory and Gods country, I have a few guides that head your way each year around oct for ducks and snow geese. If we have something down here that works for you will send it up with one of them.

I just ordered the mud skipper twister XL mud motor kit. I am mounting it on a predator 13 hp engine. Hoping that this will get me going in the right direction. The cost was about $1000.
We also tried a 70 pound thrust 24 V Minnkota training trolling motor which was a real pain in the rear.
I have a new 9.8 hp longshaft outboard motor for sale if you decide to go that way. LOL
