  • Buying an 1982 Argocat 8x8

    Hello together,
i am young construction engineer and Offroad enthusiast from Germany.
I am searching for an argo 8x8 and someone offered me a crayford argocat 8x8 for 2800€.

My resarch of the Serial number gave me the date of the construction, ist from okt. 1982.
It has a kohler m18s Motor, i asked kohler for the motornumber 2304805316 Spec no 24504, there answer was that the Motor is build in 1992..

Next week i will visit the seller and i will have a look and i will drive the machine.
Do you have some advices what to look there?
He sayed that the Motor runns geat, the chains are in good condition, it is thick in the water. Only the look of the plastic boddy is "used"...

The argo Company gave me the message that the dont sell most parts of this old argocat, i should buy it only in a good condition…

Which parts are there problematic at this old argo? What is often damadge and than expensive or difficult to become?

I look forward for the day!
    Thank you very much.

being an 82 means it has pins not splines holding drive sprockets to axles. It has an upgraded engine from the original KT17 that came with them(similar engine to the M18 with some updates...coil instead of points condensers etc) Make sure transmission works properly and has oil in it makes no noises dont come out of gear has no shavings inside it etc. see how the engine runs too much to go into with it but im sure you know the usual stuff to look for. the most problematic thing with that year of Argo is defiantly the drive train and even that isn't problematic to a point where its unreliable. overall if its in decent or great shape they are reliable and great machines also simple if you know what you're doing!
    hope this helps

        Thanks,
yes the tires are only from a atv, but i will take an outboard Motor for the water. 5Ps or better 10 ps?
What do you mean with the drive train, the transmission? I will look how the "feeling" is while gear shifting.
And also the oil colour everywhere. Is it possible to get anywhere a registation document with the Informations of the vehicle?
I will try to get a license to drive thew official Streets (to come to water an mud
And i am thinking about building a skid plate bye myself, Maybe with aluminum.
What the best way to construct it...
        Thanks for your help2019-02-23 15.58.26.jpg2019-02-23 16.01.13.jpg
And i think i need to install a parking brake to get a street license.

You can contact Argo direct with the model number and serial number of the machine. With that information they will be able to tell you what year it is. They can probably also email you a spec sheet on that machine. Good luck.

              Hello,
              i bougt this Argocat
It is very funny driving Offroad.
But i lost the pin of the seond left Wheel.
Should i use now a full material bolt or a original one?
And one Question more, is there a spanner at the first chain from the Motor to the axle?
              ThanksIMG_5821e.jpg
