Possible transmission problem

Help.
I had the bigfoot up on stands lubing the chains. The right side wouldn’t pull/rotate till I put a little pressure on the left side brake. It’s never done this before. It’s a 2004 bigfoot with the 18hp Briggs and Stratton. I’ve owned this one for about 3 years. I replaced bearings,seals,axles and chains last year.

If you have the admiral transmission, then it is an "open differential" transmission. This means power is delivered to the side with the least resistance. When you apply the brake to the moving side, it increases the resistance and shifts the power to the opposite side. What you are seeing is normal unless you have an excessive amount of resistance on the non-moving side (such as a dragging brake).

Thanks for the input. I believe it has the T20 transmission. This is the first time I have seen this the last time we were on the river I noticed that the right side wasn’t pulling when we were floating.

I have to assume that your 2004 Bigfoot with a briggs and stratton engine is an Argo. It would have the trans that Dirtdobber described but not the newer Admiral trans that came in about 2004 on the Argo Avenger. The T 20 trans now comes only on the Mudd OX (I think) but it came in max machines and attex and many many others since the 1960s or so.

The trans should be the standard 617 or 618 - G/M/H ranges used from 1967 to 2007 with modifications through out the years, often called the first gen trans. The 34-100 is the second gen trans from 2004 in the Avengers and 2007 Frontiers, the Admiral 3 gen triple differential trans came out 2010 in the Avenger HDI.
