  • Chain Slap

My 86 Response has a lot of chain slap turning either direction. I can feel it hitting the floorboard. Can a link be taken out? How tight should they be?

I dont think you can just take a link out. I just recently replaced my chains because they were the same way. They are supossed to be tight with very little to no slack at all when they are new.

Thanks. Mine must be stretched a lot. What do they run for a set? Anyone on here sell them?

while you are checking thins, you might want to check the wheel bearings, if jack up the argo you should feel no to very little movement, i thought that the chains were my problem, but turns out that the wheel bearings are shot too. i replaced my chains and will be doing the bearings her shortly. chains cost me about 400.00$ canadian

Is it chains slapping, or could it be that the idler chains are loose and popping?

I haven't checked it with the covers off. I can for sure feel them hitting the floorboard pretty hard under my feet.

How many hours are on the machine?
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

probably time for some new chains. my 85 argo is in bad need of chain and i get the same slap on the floor that your describing. pull the floorboard and make sure the springs are still on the tensioners, but i'd bet that your chains are loose.

Not sure. It's an 86 and it looks like the hour meter quit quite some time ago.

I bought 50 foot for just under $200. Not the best stuff but I was in a pinch and the wife was tired of me spending money on it. When it wears out I will replace it with higher quality stuff.

                      Where to buy?

                      Hi Country,

Where did you purchase your chain at? Will 50 feet replace all the chains on a 8x8?

                      Thanks!

Is this on your '84 model?, I just checked your previous posts. If so, I'm not familiar with the chain on that early of a model, in size or length. I've been buying the american made stuff at Shoup Manufacturing Company

                              Chain

                              Hi Roger,

It takes RC50-2. What does your argo use? Can I use RC50 single instead of double with the same sprockets any one?

                              Thanks
