      Argo

I think that you are under estimating Argo here. Their survival is at stake here. They are getting pressure from the Chinese, from the Mudd Ox and everywhere else. Please don't think that they haven't been watching and listening trying to figure out how to get their market back. They manufacture gears, they have the capability to make wonderful improvements and I think they will. I think everyone on the forum is going to be surprised just how nice and how inovative these new machines will be.

        MightymaxIV, Hi.

I often wonder what is going through ODG's mind.

Also and depending on the region, prices will always play a role.

Locally a Max IV 6x6 is 13,500$ + taxes CDN. That's the lowest price i could find. Most others were 14-15,000$

Argo frontier 650 is about 14,000$+taxes.

Mud Ox 8x8 is in the 30,000+$ range.

Hoot Etv is 10,999$ + taxes (basic bare machine with stock tires).

I paid less for my used (still warenteed) Landtamer-II 6x6 than the base cost of a new argo frontier 6x6 580 (before taxes).

I just do not know what to believe companies like ODG and Can-am (aka BRP) are thinking except for the good ole " bottom line "

Ex. Can-am outlander 650, 2010 model sports 60HP. Well so do the 2008/2009 models. The only difference is that the motors are tuned lower.

For 200-500$ you can have your 2008 tuned to 60HP, or get and hmf vdi and do it yourself for about 500$. The "only" other difference with the 2010 can-am atvs is power steering.

Hrrmmm 12000$ or 500$.. Sounds like a no brainer to me

          AATV or ATV?

Made my choice....2009 frontier 8x8. Why?

          slower speed.......so I don't spill my drink.
amphib..........so I don't have to push through 3 ft. of water
simple mechanicals....... so I can fix it 10 miles in the bush.
Price comparison ............ only machine close to comparable Polaris ranger which is more money without options and you still get wet feet. Yah they are both over priced!

never seen a Muddox or max up close so I can't compair/comment.

I know of 1 new feature.........all bearings can be greased through a nipple on the hub like an easy lube axle.

, Through the hub? As in "hollow axles"?
I can appreciate this as being "easier", but would have prefered to see a "remote block" with grease lines to the more difficult brngs. I already bend enough axles as it is. lol

I also heard that Argo is coming out with a machine that will directly compete with the HOOT. Any rumors about that, floating around?

The 2010 models are going to be hydrulica operated, don't know how much tho.
I called the dealer near me and, told me that a new one will there on the 28th
making a trip to check it out..

I would imagine " operated by hydrolics ",, probably means " actuated " by hydrolic lines to engage the counter rotating function. Just like the hydrolic brakes are hydrolic in function on the higher priced Argo machines.

                            Here is the Scoop

The New Argo HDi 8x8 Has The Following Features:

                            1. Apache Transmission: 2 Speed (Low/High), When Handlebar is moved to lock position (In Low Only) the tires will automatically counter-rotate. Steering effort is like power steering on your Automobile, effortless. Shifting from Low to High has a type of synchromesh, that will engage automatically when the rpm is correct. The 2 output shafts are positioned very low and extend out to the sides of the frame, where support bearings are located, from there, it's double 50 to the front shaft. This transmission is mounted in the frame very low and independent from the motor (31 hp efi).

It also has 2 hydraulic caliper/rotors located on the output shaft close to the transmission. This transmission 35% more efficient than a comparable Hydrostatic type. No more power loss when turning! This is a patented design. I am speculating that it must have some sort of Dual Planetary Gear set, that does the counter-rotating, how it is automatically initiated is a mystery to me.

                            2. It has hydraulically operated hand lever operated brakes (no adjustments required)

                            2. It has a new hood design that has a forward facing scoop, and small side screens. Under the scoop is 2 large screened ventilation areas. It also still maintains the standard side screens. I wonder if the scoop will along water to enter the engine compartment doing steep water entries?

                            3. The axles have been increased to 1 3/8", with a new triple sealed bearing mounted in a "special" 4 hole pattern to match existing Avengers to allow for future retro-fits. The bearing mount looks like cast iron. The bearing flange has one grease fitting that can be greased via a matching hole in the rim.

                            4. New water proof sealed switches, with room for expansion in the new panel.

                            5. Digital Tach

The rest of the 8x8 looks like stock Avenger EFI. The automatic counter-rotating feature is pretty slick, doing a perfect tight doughnut. They are available in limited numbers up to November/09. Price is in the $19,500 range I've heard. Speed are pretty much the same as the Avenger.

Made a few errors on my post, it is called Admiral, not Apache, LOL, playing too many video games.

Also a typo, "wonder if the scoop will allow water........
