i was just wondering if anyone has ever broken a belt i have a argo avenger 750 i was pulling a moose out with it and i snapped my belt is this overloading the machine or a common problem with belts. is there a better belt than factory?

seems odd that your belt just snapped probably had a crack or two before it let go.. just another thing to carry a spare of, my machine came with a spare zipped tied to the winch bracket nice place for it

I have never heard of a belt "snapping" in an Argo Shredding, burning, slipping, YES, but never snapping. My guess is that there must have been a defect in the belt.
Around here we use Argo's quite a bit on the Gas/Oil field ind. They get worked VERY hard. Some of the more common Avenger issues I have come across include:
          Broken engine/trans mounting plate.
          Broken framefork under seat.
          Broken/Bent axles
          Broken Brng Housings.
Piled up Transmitions (120-180hrs, not uncommon)

I always carry a spare belt, not becouse they fail often, but becouse if they do fail it will be in the ugliest spot, furthest away from your truck, that you could possibly be.

Never heard of one snapping before. Like Rock said it was probably a defective belt.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

i hope youre right i was 15 miles out with a 900lb moose and 6 guys thats why i was wondering if i overloaded the machine it pulled it with ease.

Out for a ride sunday and noticed that my tranny appeared to move side to side when i was braking. I don't remember it doing this before. Is it possible tis is a broken tranny/motor bracket like RD mentions. Not trying to steal your thread junkman, it just triggered my memory

Did you have 6 guys in the Avenger,,,and pulling the Moose ?
You say it pulled with ease,,,if so,,then it prob was a bad belt,,,I keep an extra belt under the seat of my BigFoot.

                      belt

yes 6 guys camera gear and hunting gear and a 900 lb moose it did strain but did it i think i may be pushing it too far . when odg says 1800 lb towing capacity i think it means rolling load i also snapped off the back receiver too.

If you say dragging a moose behind and you mean on the ground and not on a trailer plus 6 guys at an average of 270 lbs each with gear I say you were overloaded. Towing capacity would in my opinion be based on weight on a trailer not dead weight on the ground.

RD I was going to average the weight at 225 but my hunting buddy happen to be with when I was answering and we used ourselves to estimate our weight when hunting with clothes and gear to be about 270. Maybe I'm high for an average guy, anyway I don't think the 6 guys was as big a factor as dragging the 900 lb moose behind. To have ripped of the hitch it must have been quite a seen man!

Oh, I agree. It sounds like a load.

The picture that flashed through my head made me chuckle " 6 guys + gear, averaging 270 lbs each" ............................................... THAT RIGHT THERE IS A FULL ARGO lol.
