  • It Runs!!!!! Frontier complete re build - new build Honda GX620

Well happy to say that Kev and I got the engine and tranny in my 08 Frontier 8x8 (got it from a guy's ex wife that wanted it all gone!). I got it with no engine or tires and a few other things. Installed my Honda GX620 20hp Engine on the factory bolts on the powerpack with no problems at all. Bolts right in and tons of room. Fired it up and that so far is the best sound a guy can hear. This has been a complete froma up build.

Now I need to address the exhaust as I feel it is a bit too close to the belt and clutch. Any ideas guys?

    Thanks

Congratulations for completing your build, dezi.

I would like to put a 620 in my '77 8x8 , but I'm going to stay with the two-stroke Kohler and put a few miles on it first. I tore mine down to the frame and replaced a lot of parts with new ones. I'm hoping to have it running in a few days.

Well the build is half way there. Just a note... The exhaust is a bugger. Factory one will not fit in there as it is too close to the belt (1/8"). So now I have to try to fab something up.

If all goes well, I will post pics of the build of the exhaust. Working on wiring now.. Well Kev is.. This is going to be a great machine. We plan to use it for Seacrh and Rescue as well since it is a 8x8 and it has a reliable Honda motor in it

Sounds like a great project. I look forward to seeing the pictures. Being so new when you got it why do you think the motor was out of it? Was it something malicious from the ex-husband to just take whatever he could?

The Frontier is 95% done! Pics included

It's been a long time but we got it almost all done. 8x8 frontier with a Honda GX 620 20HP engine. Working great!!!! Havn't had a chance to take it out to the trails yet but soon. Got to at least test it down the road.

Need to add the screens, a few little adjustments with the exhaust and I think we are ready to go.

All custom wire harness from a GREAT BUDDY Kevin (KrS14) and a lot of help with assembly! Thanks d00d!!!!!

Installed a Clarion Deck, speakers in the back, fog lights, wiper motor, custom switch for the front and rear winches and articulating motor to pivit the blade (Video to come of that one!)

Just picked up a 70lbs thrust Minn Kota trolling motor. Hope it will be enough.

This was a complete empty yub bare frame up build. FROM SCRATCH.
If we can be of any help for techy stuff let us know.

LOOKS GREAT! On picture # 4 I see an electrical plug in, what is the purpose of this? For the winch? We use power inverters, just set the inverter on the seat, open the hood & clamp the cables onto the battery when needed & thought this might be a better solution instead of opening the hood every time we need to charge the cell phone, camera battery, DeWalt battery, etc.
Are you utilizing brand new body? Thanks for the pictures!

Thanks for the comments moos-a-boo. The plug was added for our future hardtop enclosure we are planning to make this summer. Power, ground and some extra wires for a blue light on top are in there so when we attach the top all we have to do is plug the harness in ther from the top and it goes to another panel that will supply power for dome light, heater, etc..... Just thinking ahead so we don't have to try to fish wires, split halves again, etc.

Thanks! Ya 2 new halves together. Actually all new parts.. NEW.. Marriage went sore and the wife got to keep everything so I was able to pick it all up for REALLY Cheap. It was all in parts. Nothing was assembled. Was a blast putting it all together. More photos to come.
