easy if you got acess to a lathe weld the groove than turn them back to spec.

is there not a sleeve kit for the axles? I thought I had heard of them.

the lathe trick really is the easiest way to do it .If i had to guess i say less than hour of time for me to do it and that be going in the house to get a drink .So a machine shop could do it i say less than a hour time.at going rate .

If you go the welding and machining route, i feel that the axles should be "Stress Relieved" after. If not, the axles will have a weak spot where the welding was done.

A sleeve kit would require that the axles be machined down to accept the sleeves, or a slightly larger sleeve would be needed to fit over the axle, which means that you would need bearings with larger inner races to fit them over the sleeves.

              I agree with RD
Better to just buy new axles. Machining and heat treating will prob cost as much as new, Shop rates here are $90.00 hr and up

this dealer quoted me $85.00 per axle

yes that is a promblem with the heat but i have not done a rockwell test on the steel .But i did machine one of them that was broken and it cut like regular steel on the lathe so i dont think it is a big promblem with weakness. But hey it is only 80 plus for an axle soooo. the sleeve is also a correct fix but it would be a real son of a gun to do.

I think you could probably get away with it, especially if you Aneal the axle after welding, it just seems like a lot of effort for an axle.
So what is the procedure for the Sleeve? Is it oversized to fit over the axle, or do you have to machine the axle down to fit in the sleeve? I have not seen them for this aplication and might be interested. I could put my hands on dozens of repairable axles if this is a somewhat easy fix.

unsure of it in this case but my guess is it have to be cut down to accept the sleeve in order to keep the bearing tolarnce as was stated above. but i really think it would be alot of work .if it did stay the same size the bearing would have to change size now that would not be to bad.

moose man, what Argo Model are you running?
If it has Bearing Extensions on the Front and/or Rear, those axles can be swapped out with the Middle Axles (Bearings and Seals ride in a different location)
Cheep easy way to extend axle life.
