If you go the welding and machining route, i feel that the axles should be "Stress Relieved" after. If not, the axles will have a weak spot where the welding was done.
A sleeve kit would require that the axles be machined down to accept the sleeves, or a slightly larger sleeve would be needed to fit over the axle, which means that you would need bearings with larger inner races to fit them over the sleeves.

yes that is a promblem with the heat but i have not done a rockwell test on the steel .But i did machine one of them that was broken and it cut like regular steel on the lathe so i dont think it is a big promblem with weakness. But hey it is only 80 plus for an axle soooo. the sleeve is also a correct fix but it would be a real son of a gun to do.

I think you could probably get away with it, especially if you Aneal the axle after welding, it just seems like a lot of effort for an axle.
So what is the procedure for the Sleeve? Is it oversized to fit over the axle, or do you have to machine the axle down to fit in the sleeve? I have not seen them for this aplication and might be interested. I could put my hands on dozens of repairable axles if this is a somewhat easy fix.
