  • conquest shattered glass

Just got back from a ride in the conquest. While out on the trail we were going through a tight spot and a limb from a tree must have snapped back and hit the front window. WOW.....did that glass really shatter. Just like the back window in my truck earlier this year when I put the agro throught it....Is it me or do I have a problem with glass

Now have to price getting a new window....Any recommendations....was thinking about plexi or something along that line...need something that will not scratch easily as I go through alot of tight trails...

I use laminated safety glass in my aluminum frame windshields. Have broken a couple but it just cracks and is easy to replace. Tried plexiglas but got so scratched up in mud and brush that I went back to glass. Tempered glass is super strong until it gets hit just right then look out, shop vac time.

Just talked to the argo dealer here in St John's, Newfoundland for price for a new window......I guess I will be going without a new glass window....Price was $675 plus freight.....Price of lexan here is $260 (4 x 8 sheet).....Laminated safety glass is $14 sq/ft.....So do I buy the lexan and do it myself or just take the frame to the glass dealer and have him cut a piece and install it for me.....decisions decisions......

Lexan would be my choice only because it will probably take more abusethan safety glass.

GF this is my take on this,Lexan sucks only because the windshield is then a flimsy feeling frame with a piece of plastic, but the pro,s are its almost indestructible, still costly and if you are not real handy have it professionally installed,if they screw it up then they make it right, and the truth of the matter for me is when I broke mine I tried a lexan and jus didn't like it,my own bias opinion liked the rigid glass so opted for the more expensive way, figured only one broke in twenty odd years probably wont see twenty more.Cheers N.C.T

I haven't priced one lately, but go to a couple of glass shops and check their prices. I'm thinking less than $200

guyfox , if you get it installed, let us know what it cost. i might go the same way.
as for replacing it with safety glass again NO WAY my glass didn't even make contact with the tree, the support bar got caught and bent before i could stop, it caused the window shatter.

guyfox , you might want to shop around a little more.
i just priced a piece of lexan in sydney NS at 90 plus tax. (4/2 by 2/2)
the glass shop says the wiper has to go as it will scratch the **** out of the lexan. they also said it was a pretty simple DIY project.
i am going to give it a hook next sat.

                          Thanks Madmac,

I will have to spend some time to check it out.....If the wiper will scratch the lexan then I may have to go with safety glass as a wiper is a must here in Newfoundland....All this fog ansd mist we get here I would have to stop pften just to clean off the window.....

I have Lexan in mine, and YES it's tough stuff. but the fricken thing scratches so easy, and is scratched up so bad that I never use it 'cause I can't see through it any more. I think I will go back to Laminated Glass when I can get around to it.

Lexan is VERY easy to do it yourself..........VERY easy.
