  • Well it happened. Got the Argo Stuck Tonight

I got the Argo stuck tonight. I ran down a power line easement and sunk the thing so bad it was almost on one side. At one point it was half in the mud and the other 4 tires were in the air. I do not have my winch installed yet so I had to get country to get it out. I let the air out of the back tire that was in the air then tied the rope around the tire and the other end to a tree. The Argo wound that rope up enough to pull it's self out of the hole. Important safety tip: that exhaust exhaust tip is HOT and it will burn the skin off you real quick!

I bet it will not be long before you have a nice winch installed and even a portable one to hook to the rear receiver just for days like these.....

It is always a plus to carry some extra rope as well.....In my experience the cable ends about 2 feet before the trees.....
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

This will happen, don't worry, its a learning process.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Its always fun to find the limits of your machine. Sounds like fun! Except the exhaust thing.

I just wish we could do things to upgrade the engine. I am that guy, the one who loves to build it bigger and faster. The Argo rep said "no way" the transmission will not handle anything over 20hp.

I'm not in Slims category, but have had no issues with the 27 hp upgrade in mine, and i work it hard. There are lots of ARGO'S out there with larger motors, but you rarely hear about tranny problem caused by the extra power.

Note, I cut the extra length off my exhaust pipes to help eliminate the burns to the hands, as well to keep the end of the exhaust pipes from getting crushed against trees.

Sounds like you had a good time

as you practice, you will be stuck less and less. to maximise the amount of drive time:

                    Building Supply Plus: Store Home

110 bucks and everyhting you need in a winch, except for the mounting plate! It has the same guts as a 5 year old warn winch. if you look around that site, you can even get a 4500 LB winch with synthetic rope for under 200!

stay away from the harbor freght jobs! their winches let me down. (seems like you get a really good one, or a really badone)

good luck, and it is all part of the learning curve! have fun ans push your capabilties and the capabilites of your machine!

There is also a rear winch mounting accessory that you can get.. Comes with the wiring harness and mounts in the receiver.. 2 pins and you are swapped..

I installed my ARGO winch mount kit that came with no instructions, 6 bolts, 4 nuts, and 20 washers. The 6 long bolts are worthless and the two short bolts are worthless. So after getting the correct bolts in stainless and chasing the frame holes with a Tap I installed the winch mount. My new winch is 3500# with a synthetic rope and should arrive next week. I also purchased a gallon of green slime for my tires. I need to sell the 8 new tires that came on my argo so I can apply that cash to a set of tracks.

getting stuck sucks after 30 yrs of off road equipment moving i am way over it.the rope deal i think goes back to ww 2 i seem to rember reading about it.but i have seen stuff that had a cat head mounted to the axle just for that reason.i too am adding a second winch to the back. mine will pull the pin chuck it in the back and go the promblem i see is my stock conquesr brush guard really dont leave room to do this.
