  • hello from Italy!

    Hello everyone,
I'm Luca from Italy! I just purchased my 2005 Argo Avenger in spain, think ... I crossed the europe to find this beautiful model. From Venice to Bilbao, 3200 km. It 'was love at first sight and I now believe to be the owner of one of the few Argo in Italy .
The Avenger is a model 700 with 26 hp Kohler engine, the clock shows only 84 hours but the previous owner used it regardless, the frame is a little 'rust and all the controls are to be calibrated ... but the worst thing of all is that the Argo was probably used as a toy for a child ... and must have taken some bad shots at the wheels, this is the movie that show how the right shafts turn :

What do you advise me to do? just replace the axle shafts, or even replace the bearings?
The work starts now, my goal is to explore the ancient river system of the old Republic of Venice.
Hello everyone, happy to be one of you;-)

    Luke

Welcome, Luca. That is a nice machine that you have there.

As you have surmised, that axle is bent. I would replace it and the bearings if the machine belonged to me.

      Welcome Luca to the forum.

Good find on the Argo Avenger. I'm sure that these machines are far and find where you live. Replacing all of the bearings and the axles that are bent seem to be the first major step.

100_3922[1].jpg100_3925[1].jpg100_3921[1].jpgI would replace all Axles and Bearings, in 2010 Argo came out with a new style Heavy Duty Axle and Bearing. These are used in all current models.

You can retro fit your 2005 Avenger with these newer Axles and Bearing (If your repalcing them anyways)

                Refer to the attached Pics...

I noticed your straps over the Argo body to the trailer.

I would be careful, you can easily damage the upper Body and or cause Lower body sag, there is nothing but plastic where you are strapping your Argo to your trailer..HDPE (High Density Poly Ethylene) is prone to sag and will hold its shape if held in that position too long….

I normally strap my machines by the axles; you reduce the costly risk of damaging the upper or lower body..

@ Hurtmudman thanks, this is what I want to do, an upgrade instead a repair... but.. the left axles are good...:-( . What is the best online shop? do you know if there is a good web shop here in europe? many thanks

I know that the Argo can be damage by strops, but I use only one in the body, gently, just to fix it to the trailer up to down, I have use 4 strop on the axles that do the hard work. I will arrange a good trailer for the argo, I have a good idea to stap it to the trailer in 5 minutes!

I would replace the bent axles and upgrade to the HDI bearings, but would not bother with the other axles until you need to.
Also, you could check in with Tim at Adair Argo and see about his adapter kits for the front and rear bearing extensions (HDI Bearing adapters)

You can save the money by bending the axles back to its true state by using a bench press. CBASS http://www.6x6world.com/forums/gener...bent-axle.html posted a video like two or three weeks ago of how to do it. There are other methods to fix your bent axle problems on the site from other members that are just as good. As for the bearings,, for sure,, just like everyone else,, I would replace them if I owned the machine.

Thanks to all for the answers,
I will try to straighten the axles... but I will use the argo also in the road and I notice that bent axles made really unconfortable the ride...
I have another questions: are the hdi axles compatible with the old bearings?
Is my front and rear bearing extension compatible with the hdi axle and bearings?
This question is because in the buyargo.com website they have a complete kit for front and rear axle that cost 331$ every axle because there is also the alloy case. But I really need this case? It seem the same in my avenger...
                              tnx
