  • Tramsmission speeds question

Can anyone tell me the difference in speeds between the MU and GU Argo transmissions? I have an MU (medium) and am thinking of switching to a GU (low) for more power but would like to know how much speed I will sacrifice if I do this.

My 02 conquest 8x8 will max out at 30km/hr (approx 19m/hr) on level ground in high range....it has the MU tranny....
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

22kmh with my GU (low geared) tranny. 23kmh with a tailwind

Where is the lettering? On the serial number or on the transmission itself?

My 02 conquest has the MU and it,s stamped right on the top of the tran. at the end of the serial number.
The top speed ????? Could you not adjust driven clutch with the spring to give you more low end.
I took mine up a notch and it made a big difference.

Maybe, but I am also interested stress and strain. My conquest is used for work and often carries a heavy load (800+ lbs) plus pulling a heavy trailer (1200 lbs.).
Just figuring a GU would hold up better under my conditions. Am I thinking wrong?

I have one with the GU and one with the MU. The only real difference you will probably notice is that you will run in Low Range less often with the GU. Stress and Strain on the machine will not change, the only thing that may hold up better will be your Belt.
I would add that the machine will defiantly "feel" better while navigating tight trails, hills, and holes .... IMHO.
I prefer the GU over the MU for hauling heavy loads.
