Tranny is shot, it was locked up when I got it, so me thinking gears where broken and lodged, I proceeded to use one of the best manipulators I know of and beat the hell out of the output shafts to split the case and found rusty sludge and no broken parts, the gears are to eroded to sand blast and repair so plan b will have to be worked out, and the engine has a rod hanging out of it, Ive always wanted to do that, hang a rod out of it that is but some one always gets to it first lol. So Ive got a blank canvas to put any type of drivetrain we can find or go with the stock settup, what to do??????

Did you think about putting a geo metro 1.0L engine in it? You should be able to find one four under 500 bucks

As far as a trans, i know a "new" argo trans is like under two grand. Before you write that trans off, take it down to an argo dealer. Who knows, they may be able to help you out. If worst comes to worst, you can always find another and have a super cool trailer. It is also possible to poor boy it and get a honda clone engine.

the deciding factor shoudl be if you have bearing extension and splined axels. If you have those thows items, go crazy. If they are non existant, i would go super cheap aka usesd tansmission, and a honda clone engine... or get a running snow mobile for not a lot of money they make decent engines too if your poor boying it. 440 is plenty of engine

Thank you sir, and so it will be done. One question If I put a spacer band say 6" in between the lower tub and the upper tub can a geo tranny be used. If I built a carage for the motor tranny combo and used the cut down drive shaft and brake rotor and assembly from the geo and adapt my stock output disc brake/sprockets to the brake rotors and we are off????

Seems like a lot of work.....I like the t-20 idea better. Here is a way to locate a geo metro motor Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market It hooks up with most salvage yards of any size in the country....the drawback is most yards do not put all thier inventory on the computer, especially the oddball stuff(low demand).

I would find another trans and put it back like it was. These argo's are front heavy to start with,Adding more weight would not be a good idea. The $50 argo i bought had the same issue with the trans.I took the trans apart and cleaned it up,Replaced 1 bearing and seal.It was rusted up pretty good but i kept spraying and working the shafts til i got it freed up.I bought this argo for parts but after i cleaned out the tub everything looks good as far as the frame, sprockets,The tub looks good and the top cleaned up good.Looks like i have 2 projects and not enough money. My life story.
