      rednecks like shiny things

hopefully some ebay listings will go well, and i'll have some T-20 parts coming next week. untill then i just have to keep busy with other things. i got the fuel line in it and filter mounted. noticed that i couldn't remove the floor pan with the seat installed... by the time i got it cut down enough (no worries, it was already mangled) to work it was to flimzy to do anything with. so i decided to build one. stealing a rough idea from the foot rests in the McCay, i machined some bungs to raise the new pan off the frame for sprocket clearance. cut out a new floor from .90 aluminum and was good to go... but that didn't seem fancy enough. i tried to get it lazer etched, but our machine at work will only do a 4" area. so i spent last night with masking tape and an exacto knife, then sand blasted this morning. here is what i came up with. tomorrow i'm off in search of a carb kit. will it be really tough to put the t-20 in with the engine already installed? if not i can get it in and start wiring this weekend

Wow, that floor pan looks amazing!!! It looks so good, I'd be afraid to put my feet on it.

          Cool!

That is really nice work, R13. Make's me almost want to redo the McKay and Budracer (but I'm lazy). Can't wait to see the rest of it.

Racer, that is amazing work, especially for a hand masked job! Heck, the whole machine is becoming a work of art! When I compare it with the pics of when you first got it, WOW. When you get'er fired up and going, I have to see this in person. You are inspiring me to get my race project going

thanks everyone. sometimes lack of funding for one thing leads to more time for another. i'm pleased with how the machine is coming along, just anxious to get it done. i was hoping when i got the Attex for it to go more like the pace of the Bud Racer. George, i'll send you a pm later tonight

Don, i don't think you fit the lazy description with the care and feeding of size of your stable of machines.

yup... the original fake wood grain doesn't exactly scream racer. what you see on the floor was the original plan for the dash, but i'm still waiting for my decal guy to come through. i may do the same for the dash treatment, not sure yet.

i'll get some measurements of the pan, and post dimentions and pics of the mounting bungs on the frame sometime this weekend. does anyone know if the frame witdth is the same on all Attex models?

The first generation frames were narrower, but the ST400/ST295 are the same width as the later models. Cool machine.

                              making a little progress

tonight i got the engine back in, throttle and choke cables run. i'm going to make one last effort tomorrow to see if i can find a carb kit locally, before i hit the buy it now on ebay. i'm a little nervous about the engine... it will be the only thing on this machine not rebuilt so hopefully all goes well. it has spark and compression. just hope it holds up! i'm gonna call Richard monday about T-20 bands, and a case half. i'm worried that if i weld mine, it's just going to make a soft spot and cause problems again. i still have wiring to tackle, but it shouldn't be too bad. i'm going to use the stock harness for now. i have to trace a few cut wires, but i should be able to figure that out. it's going a lot slower than planned, but with a little luck it might run before the new year

finally starting to get somewhere. ordered the carb kit over the weekend, and new T-20 bands today ($...ouch). as long as the engine runs ok, i'm down to needing a belt, 2 tires, and some wheel adapters. i have all the parts for the adapters, just need a little time at the lathe and welder. i wasn't happy with the seat position, so while it pained me greatly to do it i cut the rear seat bar out of the cage. new one is built and i'll get it welded in on wednesday. then i have to repaint the cage. i hate having to redo things
