  • 440 engine

So while I wait for my wheels and tires to arrive, I have been looking further into this machine I have. I see that the factory installed 400's in some models. I can't see where the factory ever originally sold them with the 440. I am assuming at some point, it was discovered this 440 could be adapted quite easily (by the looks of things) as a replacement. Is this correct? If so, where would this 440 have come from? (I.E. snowmobile, etc.)
I was addicted to the Hokey Pokey but I Turned myself around!

In first generation machines with the Baker Hill transmissions the factory 440 was a CCW. In the later models like the 440 Thunderchief the 440 was a JLO/Rockwell.........both engines were also used in snowmobiles.

Did they use a 440 CCW, JP? The only first gen machines I remember are the ST400R and the ST340R, both with the CCW.

Howard- Max had a 440 Kawasaki in one of their Bigmax II models, and lots of snowmobiles used the same engine. I had one in an Attex that Air Bud used for racing and it was a runner.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

      (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far

You're right, Don. It was the 400, not 440 CCW in the first generation machines. The 440 Kawasaki was also available in the Max IV too. I think the early Argo SS had a 440 Kohler as well as the early Hustler models.
