  • Attex axles with taper locks??

Have any of you attex 6x6ers used a keyed 1inch shaft with a taper bushing and sprocket set up?? To eliminate using the tube on sprocket and through bolt.
If so could you share how this worked out. Seen a machine other day with this setup but it had barely been run and not run hard so I'm kinda curious how this would hold up to abuse!!
    Thanks

Joe H would be the one to ask. I believe he had a racer with either taperlocks or QD bushings, I don't remember but I do know he one of them.

My superchief has keyed axles and sprockets. I use split collars to make sure the keys and sprockets stay in place. I still bolt the hubs on the outside. So for has worked out very well. Actually 2 weekends ago my nephew claimed he just bumped a tree come to find out it was a bump at wide open. But the keyed axles and sprockets make for a easy removal and install.

Thank you Mike. I just made all new axles for my project but I think I'm gonna go this way on the next one for sure!! Tired of trying to get sprocket tubes off of the axles!! And I think it will actually hold better!!

Are these a taper lock style or just keyed sprockets on the shaft??
            Thanks

              They are just keyed sprockets.

I would ask Matt about the Mudd Ox axle design. I think they have a keyway and not splined axles.

I have 1" taper lock sprockets on my suspended Gotcha that have been bullet proof. Keyed sprockets on a trail machine should be fine if you use spacers between the sprocket and bearings so it can't shift sideways. You also need to locktite the set screws which I change to 1/4 " bolts for easier tightening and removal. I do have keyed sprockets on my center and back axels on my springer racer, but they need to be beefy and I have to retorque the set screws after every race because of the high torque and horsepower.
