  • Orange Attex

It's been a while since I'd been around. I've been tryin to track down an Attex that my father and I had about 20 years ago. I've done everything but give up, think it's about time. The last person I talked to described one a buddy of his bought and told me where it was bought and I'm pretty sure it was it but he quit answering emails. Oh well.

I have found an Attex close to me and it's a pretty good price and comes with tracks. I won't get to check it out for a few days yet. The color is more of an orange like color than the yellows I'm used to seeing. From what I've seen I don't believe it's been painted. What models were more of an orange color ?

According to the Attex master it would be a 1976 model: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/attex...oly-attex.html

    Probably a Superchief?

In 1976 Attex switched from ABS plastic to HDPE for their bodies. In this particular year, the HDPE was more of an orange color than in any other year (before or after). If it is a poly (HDPE) body, you're probably better off. They seem more resilient to damage and fading than the ABS bodies. They are also in higher demand among us Attex fans.

      Attex tracks!? Cool!

Well that's even better yet ! Guess I need to get this deal secured somehow then. I can use the help getting around to hunt or spend any time in the woods, back is FUBAR. The tracks are a bonus, other than value, in this part of NY we can't be on snowmobile trails with wheeled vehicles and our only trails are snowmobile trails The tracks makes me golden

Well I guess I might as well revive this thread. The Attex I was looking at really don't look orange at closer view. It turns out it's a Tomahawk, the engine is still there but he says it smokes some but that doesn't bother me any. The trany is out with troubles. I checked it out today and the clutch driven shaft comes out. It looks to me like the c-clip came off allowing the shaft to move, other than that everything seems fine while on the floor. The splines on the shaft show NO damage so I'm thinkin I may be able to get away with a tare down to replace the clip and retrieve the old one. From what I could see, stuff piled everywhere, the body looks to be in good shape other than the engine hood is missing. It has a fabbed hood on it now and it is quite rugged..lol. The tires are turfs but they look small, may be right with the tracks on it though, they are Argo tracks. I think we finally have a deal hashed out so I should have it home in a couple weeks. I can't wait...lol...

Is this machine a poly or ABS. If it is ABS make it orange like the one you had.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

It's poly, which I I would rather have. I pretty much figure I won't find my first one. As for changing the color, I have thought of doing a camo paint job for hunting but I'm not sure if I'll mess with that yet. I'm actually glad that it is a Tomahawk, the 4 stroke engine will be more appropriate for cruising through the woods. I'm don't much care to run around as fast as I can anymore, I'd rather just enjoy the scenery now lol.

I thought the same way until i got in one of those darn springers of Whippers. It's all his fault! Seriously i like to do both now. I have my Avenger for the mud and the springer for speed. I really like the ride the springer has. My back has thanked me.

Bout the only place we can go fast around here is on the road anyhow, not allowed in the fields and our trails through the woods are real tight. I'm sure I'll run the road some lol. Those springers are sweet but way out of my reach

Thanks for the offer rdr, if it will fit what would ya be askin for it ?

I went and got some pics of the Tomahawk today, I can't seem to wait till it's in my yard lol. I didn't think the floor insert was there but turns out it is. I got a pic of that steel hood too lmao. It's heavy....

I am surprised to see it is in much better condition than I expected. I haven't started the engine yet but turned it over on the starter and it seems to have real good compression. The clutch side of the transmission doesn't look real good though, I hope I can get it straitened out reasonably, I certainly can't afford to replace the tranny. I will get some pics of the insides of the tranny that I'm concerned with. I didn't see a walk around video of a Tomahawk either (unless I missed it) so I will get one of those too.
                          Goin for pics.....

Man, that body appears to be in really good shape from what I can see of it. I know you have to be excited. Let the fun begin.

Here's the tranny shots, they are all on the clutch side. The other side looks ok.
Click-able thumbnails will take you to my Photobucket page to view the rest.
This sucks, I can't afford a replacement tranny.......
