  • Picking up my super chief next weekend

How well will a chief run with tracks? I guess it came equipped with them from the factory when new.I have looked for pics or video of a super chief with tracks and have yet to find any or reviews it comes with tracks but not installed at this time

'Never had tracks on a Superchief, but I had them on a Li'ltruck with a 440 Cuyuna, which should be pretty close. The only thing you may need to watch out for is the speed that the machine is capable of. I'm not sure what top speed the tracks are rated for, but at higher speeds they raise up start rapping on the body. As long as you keep the speed under control, they work fine.

I believe it was in the mid 1980's......unfortunately details are kind of sketcy about the later years of Attex.

I had a 1980 Superchief. That's the last year I can say for sure they were in production. Rumor has it that the people that bought out the company's stock assembled some machines from the parts and sold them through the mid to late 80s.

Hi City, Pictures of what you're looking at or at least a good description is needed to price any 6-wheeler. The S.C. goes for more than the other Attexs but it really depends on condition. BTW, the muffler is placed differently on those Super Chiefs that came with tracks.

If this is the machine that was on pittsburgh's craigslist for $2500, I would probably pass. Check State College craigslist and do a search for attex. An HDPE body machine comes up for $1000 and it has a parts vehicle that comes with it. FYI: just because a t-20 has been rebuilt, does not mean it has been done correctly. I purchased a machine with a rebuilt t-20 in it and the person used the wrong bearing in the output shaft. Ask for receipts for the rebuild and make sure the output shaft bearing came from RI. If it did not, it is most likely 2/100 to big and the person could not install the c-clip in. It would run fine for a while, but will eventually egg out the case rendering that half useless and requiring you to find a new half somewhere.

Here's the link to the other machine. attex 6 wheeler

I never looked at it in person. The pic looked ok. There was another green superchief on craigslist somewhere else in PA, put I can't find it now. It had a rack on the back and the guy was asking 1600 or 1800. The price isn't completely crazy, but my point is that if you watch, you can find a better deal. For $2500 it would have to have new tires and receipts with it for me to buy it. There is an AATV buyers guide on the site. It is a nice tool to have when searching for a machine. I like t-20 machines, but thats what I have and I have torn it down several times. The simplicity of the t-20 and parts availability is great. If you are set on getting the green machine, I would open the bottom drain plug in the t-20 and make sure it has red atf III in it not gray gear oil. Gear oil could delaminate the bands of the tranny.

Drew, called on that machine a few weeks ago, but it had sold. Two S.C. machines at 1000 won't last long, even if one is for parts, hopefully a site member grabbed those.

Got the SC delivered about 40 mins ago. The tracks it came with are Argo plastic tracks. Going down to Rual King to buy the chain tool to install the new left hand side chain. Maybe next week I can address the mikuni carb problems. He had it rebuilt but he said it still had fuel coming out of the float bowl over flow tubes. I will try to get some pics up tonight
